What’s your 10 year plan?
No matter what your plan is, it involves words.
Content is king. In every industry, every business, and every country, the words you use have power. Words are behind the brand that builds a business. Words are connecting tissue in relationships and families and cultures.
When I talk with an entrepreneur or a speaker about monetizing their message, I start with what’s called a White board discovery session.
In the white board session which can be virtual or face-to-face, we talk about their strategic plan.
It’s not just about their book. It’s about their business. It’s about their brand. It’s about their image. And most of all, it’s about their impact.
Words are currency.
I said that in my Tedx talk and it’s still true today. In fact, a year later, I believe that no truth is more powerful. It does not matter whether you are rich or poor, whether you’re a CEO or a stay-at-home mom. Your words have the power to change lives.
Occasionally someone asks me, but what do I write about? I get requests all year long from people who want to write a book. Some of them are celebrities. Last week an NFL football player called and asked me the question above. I said, if you have to ask what to write about, you don’t need to be writing a book.
But the answer is, that words are currency and words change lives. When you write a book, it’s about a legacy. Sure, it will transform and monetize your business plan. But it’s much more than that.
I challenge you, in 2015 to think about your words as an investment. Invest in the lives of others, and watch the words you say to yourself as well. Words transform. How will you use yours?
